Plot
Norah Jones Live in New Orleans provides further reasons why many are claiming that she is the new Nina Simone. In the space of a few months her critically acclaimed debut album Come Away with Me sold millions of copies worldwide, spurred on by her phenomenal success at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards and word-of-mouth recommendations.

Recorded in August 2002 at the House of Blues in New Orleans, the concert provides an intimate, if somewhat brief showcase of a performer on the verge of the big time. Accompanied by "Her Very Handsome Band" Norah swiftly performs the favourites from the album ("Don't Know Why" and "Lonestar") as well as other material such as "Something is Calling You" and "Bessie Smith".

While many may associate Jones's music with either leisurely moments slumbering in coffee lounges, or as the soundtrack to suburban dinner parties, as the catcalls and screams between songs suggest, her music (and sex appeal) is stimulating the middle classes in previously unimaginable ways. As she moves into stadium concert performer league, perhaps this DVD will be the only opportunity for many to witness the "queen of easy-listening" in a truly intimate and live setting.

On The DVD: Norah Jones Live in New Orleans includes a rich Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround soundtrack, which successfully reproduces Jones's stunning vocals. While the picture quality is glossy and colourful, the visual material is limited due to the handful of cameras recording the show. Also included is the promo for the track "Come Away with Me". --John Galilee
